Lake Lucerne, Switzerland

Friday, August 28, 2015

After a week of being in Delft we jetted off to Switzerland, which was a super easy 1 hour flight from Amsterdam, and arrived in Zurich with an open mind, no expectations, and a basic outline of what we wanted to see.

Our first stop was Lake Lucerne, which was only a short hour drive from Zurich. After getting extremely lost in some alleyways looking for parking and leaving our car with the thoughts that we were probably going to pay an arm and a leg for that parking spot when we got back, we navigated our way to the main touristy location of Lucern to see some swiss stuff.

Our first reaction to Lucern was surprise - surprised at how many tourists there were, how gloomy the weather was, and how many swans there were. Seriously, there were at least 50 swans in the first little section of the lake we saw. We walked through Kapellbrucke, which is a covered bridge with lots of history and beautiful engravings in the ceiling. It was beautiful, but as we navigated our way through selfie sticks and clumps of tourists, we were kind of underwhelmed by it all. We didn't really plan on staying there for long, and after an hour or so of wandering around the main tourist location we decided to head out. I'm sure we saw it on an off day, with overcast skies and clouds covering the views, but I'm glad we did get to see it because it was beautiful and I could tell it is a cool place to see if you have more time.
