Delft // From Above

Friday, December 18, 2015

It's funny how when you live in a place you can sometimes forget to visit and experience the cool things the town offers. For example, since living in Delft we had yet to visit the touristy locations like the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) in the main square. When our friend Cris was in town we finally had a reason to experience the touristy parts of Delft and it gave me a newfound appreciation for this pretty city. We spent the first afternoon climbing the steep steps of Nieuwe Kerk to witness the BEAUTIFUL views of the town from above. I don't think it's a surprise to many people that Holland is SUPER flat, which means that the only time you get to see a "view" is when you climb to the top of a tower. SO it was pretty cool to see just how flat Holland was - all you could see for miles and miles was buildings and towns and fields until it faded into the distance. The climb was pretty intense - tons steps up the small, very narrow stairwells - so narrow that if you ran into someone on the spiral staircase you had to squish yourself into the wall for them to slide by you - but despite being extremely dizzy and slightly nauseous once we finally got to the top it was so worth it. It's so beautiful!!
