April Recap

Sunday, May 1, 2016

I can't believe April is already done - where is the time going?! We only have a few short months left in Holland and we're savoring every moment. April was filled with parental visits - the Hogans came at the beginning of the month, followed by my parents with a few days overlapping. We packed in tons of touristy things, lots of yummy meals, and quality family time. Some highlights:

Showing our parents around our little town and finally feeling like spring is upon us!

Playing tourists in Amsterdam- we saw the iamsterdam sign and went to the Van Gough museum. We had breakfast at Tracy's college roommate's home in Amsterdam that used to be THE hotel people stopped at before going into the city center of Amsterdam back in the day. The home was beautiful and it was so fun to see that side of the city.

Going to Italy with the Hogans! Florence, the Tuscan countryside, and Cinque Terre in one way too short week- Sunsets, wine & cheese at Piazza Michelangelo; wandering through my old neighborhood and finding my apartment; walking the quaint streets for hours; the gorgeous ceiling of the uffizi museum; wine tasting at Avangong winery in the tuscan countryside and the ridiculous lunch in a private dining room; driving through the tuscan countryside; hiking the Cinque Terre trail; watching the sunset after a pizza dinner in the town of Vernazza.

Seeing my parents at the airport and immediately starting to hysterically cry. I guess I missed them a lot.

The Keukenhof tulip fields with both our parents. It was freezing cold and there were so many people, but it was absolutely beautiful.

Showing my parents around our favorite parts of the Netherlands - Utrecht, Den Haag, Amsterdam, and Delft.

Wandering around Amsterdam with the parentals on a GORGEOUS spring day. We saw the 2016 World Press Photo exhibit, which was stunningly beautiful and sad at the same time, but it was really nice to see it with my papa who shares a love of photography.

Finally going to the Mauritshuis museum in Den Haag and seeing the new 2016 World Press Photo exhibit in Amsterdam.

The antique flea market finally opened in Delft again - wandering with my mama sorting through old delftwear, antique spoons, paintings, and old cameras.

Accidentally taking my parents on a 4 hour bike ride to the Hook of Holland.

Seeing the North Sea and visiting the beachvtown Scheveningen for the first time.

Family dinners with the parents.

BKBeats party at TU Delft in the Architecture building with our friends -dancing until 3am and staying up way too late for our old age :)

We spent Kings Day celebrating in Amsterdam and it was a BLAST! Our friend Thea graciously invited us to her apartment party, where we danced to Spice Girls and drank mimosas then ventured out along Prinsengracht and through Nine Streets to take in the city. It was a pretty awesome experience (despite the confusing weather - sunny one minute then pouring the next) but it was still AWESOME and so much fun :)
