One of my favorite things about exploring cities in the Netherlands is the abundance of amazing concept stores. I had never really heard of concept stores before coming here, but the idea behind it is it's a store that sells more of a "lifestyle" than just clothing or jewelry. I'm sure I've been in a few back at home, but I feel like the Dutch sell the lifestyle WAY better than I've ever seen before. This past weekend we went to Amsterdam to explore a few of the shops I've read about and I was pretty much obsessed with every single one. Here are a few of my favorites:
Mashed - Jan Pieter Heijestraat 168, 1054 ML Amsterdam
This store had something for both me and Jack, which was a nice change from some of the more 'girly' stores I've been dragging him to. This place had everything - unique local jewelry, handmade camera straps, funky sunglasses, cool socks, unique greeting cards, wedding inspiration books, and even handmade tortilla chips & salsa. I feel like this store was MADE for me and Jack. Seriously, in a place that doesn't know how to make good Mexican food (we have yet to find a place that will serve us the delicious burritos we've been craving), this store had tortilla chips. It was amazing.
Wildernis - Bilderdijkstraat 165 F, 1053 KP Amsterdam
If I could live inside a store, it would be here. Their mission is "More green at home, in the (mini) city garden, on the balcony and on your roof. Green is beautiful, healthy and good for everyone", and I couldn't agree with them more. Their abundance of hanging plants, planters, vases, gardening books, garden prints, and their offerings of yummy coffee & tea made this place our absolute
heaven.
